BE-4657 Nepenthes ‘Alisaputrana’ – best selected clone
This is a stunning and truly enormous natural hybrid between Nepenthes rajah and Nepenthes burbidgeae. We have recreated it artificially in our nurseries using a legal seed-raised Nepenthes burbidgeae and one of the four clones of Nepenthes rajah donated to us by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in the late 1990s.
The first plant ever to be observed was upon its discovery in natural habitat near Pig Hill, just outside the Kinabalu National Park by Rob Cantley around 1985.To this day it remains the largest and possibly the most spectacular natural hybrid Nepenthes that Rob – or perhaps anyone – has ever seen. Only one plant was found, and the pitchers were huge.
The original amazing plant was left intact in the wild, but sadly it was reportedly later bulldozed away as part of the development of an asparagus farm.
The photos are of juvenile pitchers. The last photos in the series show typical sale plants in order of size: Medium & Large.
History: First introduced in Feb 2025. There’s considerable variation evident between individuals in the grex we raised, so we initially marketed it as assorted clones under BE-3931 but gradually isolated individual clones showing the most desirable characteristics, of which this item is the finest.
Source: From a single clone selected from many hundreds, to which have designated clone #2.
Climate: Highland. We find it grows best between about 25 deg. C (77 deg. F) in the daytime, down to 12 deg. C (54 deg. F) at night, although it may tolerate temperatures outside this range
